Community Vasectomy Services (Redditch and Bromsgrove Practice based Commissioning Cluster and Wyre Forest Practice based Commissioning Cluster) The awarding authority has identified an opportunity to commission community based vasectomy services. The aim of the service is to provide a quality vasectomy procedure under local anaesthetic in a primary care setting to adults, aged 18 and over who request it, are eligible and are registered within NHS Worcestershire. The objectives of the service are to: ? Offer patients convenience of access with enhanced access across Redditch, Bromsgrove and Wyre Forest; ? Provide a service which is closer to home for many of the locality?s patients; ? Provide a service which will be clinically effective and safe; ? Provides a service in line with NICE guidelines and other relevant advisory bodies, promoting best practice and in line with the Commissioners requirement and approval; ? Provide a service which is cost effective and reflects Value for Money, supporting the NHSW approach to demand management; ? Ensure that the availability of vasectomies should be provided, in accordance with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist guidelines, as another means of reducing unwanted pregnancies. The service required will consist of three elements, Pre-Vasectomy Counselling, Surgical Operation and Post Vasectomy Testing. It is expected that the new service will deliver improved access, choice and experience for patients, whilst increasing robustness of the service. The PCT will pay #220 per patient per full procedure and #20 per Pre-Vasectomy Counselling Session (where no further treatment is required). In 2009/2010 a total of 198 vasectomies were carried out, 127 of which were within RBPBCC and 71 within WFPBCC, in 2009/2010 a total of 398 vasectomies were carried out, 197 in RBPBCC and 122 in WFPBCC. Whilst there are no guaranteed levels of activity, these figures will give an indication of potential demand. The service will be delivered under an (AWP) Any Willing PCT accredited Provider model. Providers will need to provide evidence that they meet the generic and service specific requirements for this service. It is envisaged that the Standard NHS Community Services Contract will be used for this service. Under AWP there are no guaranteed volumes of patients or guaranteed income.
