The Awarding Authority were selected to be one of 9 Healthy Towns in England. The principle behind Healthy Towns is to improve health by increased physical activity and encouraging healthier eating to reduce obesity within our town through a variety of projects. In Middlesbrough these projects include healthy eating and urban farming, active play and active travel initiatives. Within the Active Travel Theme we want to encourage more people to travel to and from work and school using active travel, and in particular via the use of a cycle. We are therefore looking to provide adults and children within selected work places and schools with cycles. The approximate number of bicycles required is 700 No. Adult Male & Female & 750No. Male & Female child but this will be subject to user take up and funding arrangements and no volume can be guaranteed. We require a vendor to supply the cycles to satisfy the requirements of our project.
