Description Integrated Prison Health Service Procurement is joint with local authority: No Care type: Care and treatment; Integrated services Target population: All age groups; Gender specific - male; Prisons and custodial institutions Service setting: Multi-site Service sector: Pharmacy; Optician services; Liaison psychiatry; Counselling; Psychology; Behavioural intervention; Learning disabilities; Alcohol misuse; Drug misuse; Physiotherapy; Podiatry; Nursing services (specified by specialty); Immunisation and vaccination; Smoking cessation; Obesity prevention; Exercise programme; Drug and alcohol information Likely total contract term: 3 year(s) Option to extend contract: Yes Likely service start date: 01/09/2011 There are four prisons in the NHS Suffolk area: ?Edmunds Hill and Highpoint in Stradishall near Bury St Edmunds with 380 and 945 places for adult men respectively ?Hollesley Bay and Warren Hill near Woodbridge, Hollesley Bay has 330 places for adult men, Warren Hill has 220 places for juveniles aged 15 to 18 years The awarding authority is seeking to commission an integrated prison health service that ?is delivered through strong clinical and managerial leadership, which ensures integration of individual elements of the service, by a single provider accountable to NHS Suffolk for all aspects of service performance ?achieves green level of performance on relevant Prison Health Performance and Quality Indicators (PHPQIs) ?acts as the organisational hub of healthcare provision in each prison, coordinating and booking clinics as well as collecting and collating all performance information The awarding authority will focus on bidders' ability to demonstrate that they will be able to fulfil these three key requirements. Future provision of prison health care services will be subject to rigorous review, not only to maintain and improve on quality, but also to implement the significant changes which arise out of the Integrated Offender Health Agenda. This means that NHS Suffolk will be looking for a provider which is able to offer flexibility in negotiation around ?Increases and decreases in both the types of service provided and levels of service in response to improved availability of activity data ?Changes resulting from national guidance ?Development of workable care pathways ?Responding to advice from regulatory bodies (for example the Care Quality Commission) The awarding authority will be adopting a two stage tender process in this procurement.
