Description
The SCHOLAR programme was launched in June 2000 and is a not-for-profit legal partnership between Heriot-Watt University (HWU) and the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES) for the benefit of Scottish education. It is funded by subscriptions from its members, namely, the 32 Education Authorities in ScotlandSCHOLAR is a set of portfolios of e-learning content at SCQF levels 5, 6 and 7. It comprises SQA Intermediate, Higher and Advanced Higher subjects in three portfolios; maths and science, business and languages which map to the SQA curriculum.All pupils in post compulsory education studying these subjects in Scotland are registered with SCHOLAR. There are over 100,000 registrations of pupils and teachers from over 400 secondary schools in the state and independent sectors.At present SCHOLAR is delivered through its own online learning platform but with the development of the schools intranet service provided by Learning and Teaching Scotland, Glow, there is now scope for SCHOLAR to be delivered via this platform instead.Learning and Teaching Scotland and Heriot-Watt University would therefore like to commission an evaluation that explores the impact of SCHOLAR on learning and teaching in Scotland’s secondary schools and examines the opportunities and challenges of moving SCHOLAR from the current online platform to Glow.LTS and HWU anticipates secondary and primary research, and both quantitative and qualitative research methods will be required.
