Description
Established under the Ombudsman for Children Act, 2002, the Ombudsman for Children's Office is an independent, statutory body with an overall mandate to promote the rights and welfare of children up to eighteen years of age.The OCO is commissioning this research project in accordance with Sections 7(1)(b) and 7(3) of the 2002 Act.Overall aim of research: to identify how the education system in Ireland can best support attendance, participation and attainment in education by children and young people in care.The research will:- examine the issues primarily from an educational perspective and, in so far as is necessary, from a social care perspective;- engage with and build on existing knowledge and research in Ireland and in other jurisdictions; and- be solution-focused.Anticipated research methods:- desk-based, secondary research;- primary research to elicit the views of a range of relevant stakeholders.Output: Research reportTimeframe for implementation- Begin in early October 2010- Complete by mid-March 2011
